Many children and English as a Second Language students find it difficult to learn to read, to spell and to speak English words. Many children with special learning needs, especially those with dyslexia, also find it difficult to visualize the letters and sounds of words, and to spell words. This educational software, Word Construction Set, is aimed to help in all these areas. Parents and teachers will find much depth in this software. There are over 3000 exercises and 1000s of combinations of phonics to explore in the Phonics Tool Shop and in the Phonics Construction Site. The exercises are based firmly on the word lists and order of the famous 72 exercises in Rudolf Flesch's book Why Johnny Can't Read. Teachers will find this program very useful in planning stimulating lessons, in forming phonics ideas and in ESL phonics work. There are many special areas in the program which focus on helping the dyslexic student understand letter order.
While many phonics programs concentrate on beginning letter consonantal sounds, Word Construction Set includes the whole range of phonic groups: vowels, word endings, apostrophes and possessives, homophones, prefixes and Greek and Latin root sounds and meanings to choose from in the Seven Buildings of the Word World. This means that this program will help children, at all learning levels, learn a wider vocabulary, and reinforce their understanding of phonics in spelling difficult words.
